From Coach Matt Oney ’90:
This season we’re once again striving to perform at a higher level regionally and nationally, while maintaining our academic level of excellence. To accomplish that, we need to attend top level competitions both in our region and out of our region. Travel expenses continue to rise, so we always appreciate that fundraising helps us to offset those expenses and be able to expose our wrestlers to the best competitions possible.
We also continue with our fundraising efforts to support additional coaching, which will enhance the overall experience for our wrestlers.
Our current wrestlers are well aware of the fundraising we receive, and they are very appreciative of it. Every gift, no matter the size, is an expression of support, and we all are grateful to each and every person who donates to help support our current wrestlers.
Meet Mario Barberio ’24, Civil Engineering:
“Coach has always said the WPI wrestling team is more than a team, it is a family. Everyone on the team lives with this mentality. Since we are a family, everyone supports one another. This helps us during practice, competition, and life. We also live by four basic principles: toughness, energy, commitment, and hard work. With the four principles and the support of the WPI wrestling family, we are able to excel as not only a student but as a good human being.
With my WPI experience, I will be an effective Project Manager who can efficiently manage a project's pre-construction phase, design phase, construction phase, and project handover. Another goal I have is to help develop greener and cleaner construction methods to help reduce carbon emissions. This will improve our society’s infrastructure while reducing negative effects on the environment.”

Year after year, we have called on your generosity in supporting our student-athletes. And as every time before, we knew the teams could count on you.
With more than 1020 donors and over $192,000, your commitment has blown us away once again. Without a doubt, what you have achieved here this week will provide transformative support for WPI Athletics. You are the GOAT!
Stay tuned for additional thanks from the teams and final tallies next week. For now, rest assured that they have received your message loud and clear—you are someone who cares deeply about our student-athletes and who believes in them as they work toward their ambitious goals on and off the field and court.
It simply means the world to have you in our corner. Thank you.

We are in the final hours of GNGC2024 and appreciate all the support so far! Please help us reach our goal of at least $175k, as we demonstrate how important WPI Athletics means to all of us with our collective impact. If you’ve given already - thank you! and please help by reaching out to others and encourage their participation.
And when giving (or giving again!), please consider the WPI Athletics General Fund that helps all 600 student-athletes and our 18 teams with their care and performance development.
Go Goats!!
