From Coach Chris Bartley:
Many say that recruiting is the lifeblood of an athletics program, but I think it is really alumni involvement and relations that make our program so consistent. The success and commitment of time and treasure by our alumni is the best selling point we have in recruiting.
We are proud of the tradition of excellence of our men’s basketball program. In the past 19 seasons we have appeared in 11 NCAA Tournaments, won 12 NEWMAC Regular Season Championships, and 4 NEWMAC Tournament Championships while winning 20+ games in sixteen of those seasons. Last year we were 22-4 overall, 13-1 in conference, and ranked #2 in our region. However, we missed on an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. That snub stung us and has put a chip on our shoulder. Our goals are to get back to the NCAA Tournament and win the National Championship!
To help in our quest, we have made an effort to play the most difficult schedule possible. We are traveling to tournaments at Stevens Institute and Bridgewater State to play NCAA caliber teams. We will also be hosting the Ted Coghlin Memorial Tournament and will be playing Williams College in the first round.
It costs money to travel to great tournaments and stay overnight, and it costs money to invite great teams to play in our tournament. Your support helps us put the best schedule possible together. You can help get us back to the NCAA Tournament!
In essence, a donation to our GNGC is a gift to our current and future WPI men’s basketball student-athletes. It is a huge help in us conducting a high-level college basketball program with high-level student-athletes. WPI Basketball Pride!
Meet Donovan Sevilla, ‘24:
“The team is what defines my WPI experience. The family environment that we have and the culture that has been passed on through the years has allowed me to make the most of my time here at WPI.
My goal is to use my WPI education to help me excel in the biotechnology and biomedical fields. With the Covid pandemic, the necessity for technology in the biomedical and biotechnology fields has increased greatly. I hope to use the knowledge I received from WPI to aid immediately in my future work that can possibly help the entire world in times of need.”

Year after year, we have called on your generosity in supporting our student-athletes. And as every time before, we knew the teams could count on you.
With more than 1020 donors and over $192,000, your commitment has blown us away once again. Without a doubt, what you have achieved here this week will provide transformative support for WPI Athletics. You are the GOAT!
Stay tuned for additional thanks from the teams and final tallies next week. For now, rest assured that they have received your message loud and clear—you are someone who cares deeply about our student-athletes and who believes in them as they work toward their ambitious goals on and off the field and court.
It simply means the world to have you in our corner. Thank you.

We are in the final hours of GNGC2024 and appreciate all the support so far! Please help us reach our goal of at least $175k, as we demonstrate how important WPI Athletics means to all of us with our collective impact. If you’ve given already - thank you! and please help by reaching out to others and encourage their participation.
And when giving (or giving again!), please consider the WPI Athletics General Fund that helps all 600 student-athletes and our 18 teams with their care and performance development.
Go Goats!!
