Since arriving in 1993, Philip has served as Director of Residence Life, Assistant/Associate Dean of Students, Dean of Students, Vice President, and ultimately Senior Vice President. Over the years, he has overseen and strengthened nearly every area dedicated to student success.
His influence is seen across campus and across generations of students. Among his many contributions:
- He supported the creation of the Insight first‑year program, which dramatically improved retention—now an exceptional 94%.
- He conceptualized and launched WPI’s CARE Team, ensuring students facing barriers receive coordinated support.
- He championed the Center for Wellbeing and supported major initiatives such as the SWEET Center.
- He played a key role in the design and construction of the Rubin Campus Center, Innovation Studio, Sports & Recreation Center, and numerous residence halls including East, Faraday, and Messenger Halls.
- He co‑led critical institutional efforts—from emergency preparedness to guiding the university through the COVID‑19 pandemic, for which he was awarded the Presidential Medal.
- He provided steady leadership during pivotal moments, including the work of the Mental Health Implementation Team.
Through it all, Philip has been known as an includer, a mentor, and a tireless advocate for students. His influence will live on in the buildings he helped realize, the programs he built, and the people he encouraged and inspired.
